Thursday 13 – 13 Things You WILL Be Talking About Today.

It’s been a while since I’ve had the pleasure to compile such a list, but here are the 13 Things you WILL be talking about today (and tomorrow, etc)

  1. You know you’re a Dad when… Breakfast on my way to a meeting this morning was: a handful of stale pretzels, a handful of peanuts, a Clementine orange and a container of 1-day-old cucumber slices.

  2. Not busy enough on Twitter, US President Donald Trump is stirring up the debate on abortion with his fellow males.  Donald, in less that 140 characters, I want to tell you this, “Stay out of my uterus!”

  3. Scientists – and I love me some science – are going to make tomatoes taste delicious again!  YAY.  For those of you who have been reading The Urban Daddy for a long-time, you will remember that I love gardening and my favourite thing to grow… Tomatoes!  http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/scientists-make-tomatoes-great-again-1.3953185

  4. The “Doomsday clock” has moved to 11:58pm for the first time since like 1954.  This means nothing to me, to be honest, and I didn’t even like the cartoon Doonsbury, so there!

5. GM is cutting 800 Canadian jobs and moving them to Mexico… Damn.  I hope Trump doesn’t hear that.  In retaliation, Canada has agreed to build a wall between Canada and Mexico.  Damn you capitalism!!!

6. I don’t know where you live, but here in Toronto where we need road tolls to keep the 905’ers out (see wall building), we have pot holes the size of, well, Mexico.  One such pot hole cost my wife her front tire and rim.  Damn you Mexico!

  1. Mary Tyler Moore passed away, and after being reacquainted with her show recently I came to realize that her TV feminism was inspiring and much needed.  She will be missed.

  2. The Toronto Maple Leafs do not stink… Am I dead???

9. I read somewhere that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s mother had met the Donald (see President Trump earlier) back in the 70’s.  I thought the writer was trying to convince us that Donald Trump was his father, and when I told this to someone, they said, “Trump?  No.  Castro, yes!  They even look alike!!”  What?!?

  1. New expression in The Urban Daddy dictionary; “Playing your trump card”  Means saying whatever it takes to get what you want.  Truth, lies, half-truths… whatever!

  2. Trumpanomics.  Putting America first.  Hopefully Canada second. Could change direction at a moments Tweet and may or may not be accurate or true… Nobody knows…

  3. 2 hours before turning over reigns of the US to Trump, Former President Obama sent $221 million dollars to the Palestinian authority.  It would be a shame if that money was not used to build infrastructure and was used by the “leadership” to acquire weapons, build tunnels or for their pockets.  If you want your own state, start acting like responsible leaders and put your people first!  As for Obama… Not cool!

  4. One week of President Trump and here is what we know:  Torture good, Mexico bad.  Jobs good, jobs from tourists in Islamic countries bad. Woman bad. Free Trade bad. The Apprentice good. Climate change – fake.  Vaccinations – fake.

  5. (It’s my Trump calculations…) Tim Horton’s is opening up in… Gulp… Mexico.  Don’t tell Trump.  He’ll kick the coffee company out of the US.  Or, those in the southern US will need a really long straw to sip those yummy Timmy’s beverages.

Don’t read this post!

I figure if I pick a title that is eye-catching it might attract traffic… Or probably not.

It was that or I fill up the tags section with words like “ass”, “fuck”, “sex” and “avatar”.  Well, Avatar might make the tags as it’s a movie I have zero interest in seeing.

Also of little interest to me is the argument in the US about health care.  I know you cannot make everyone happy and living in Canada our universal health care is one of the reasons our taxes are so high but then again I don’t need to call my doctor if one of my kids gets sick and have them meet me in the clinic after the confirm I have the right health insurance.  I pick my kid up and either take him to the doctor during the day, or a walk-in clinic or to the emergency area of a hospital without delay.  And it’s free.

Another thing I do not understand is how some of my posts, like my coffee rankings, or my solution to terror in the air, receive so few hits or comments yet my post on Captain Lou Albano – who died recently – gets hit after hit after hit.

The Canadian Olympic hockey team is set to be announced tomorrow… And this is news why?  I lost interest in the Olympics when they stopped using amateurs.

My 3 year old asked me yesterday out of the blue if people use drains.  I assume he was asking if he can go down the drain when I drain the bathtub.

“No, people cannot use drains”, I replied.  He said thank you and away he went, looking quite relieved.

It looks like Tyra Banks is ending her talk show… Ooops.  Bad me.  Didn’t know she had one.

Saw there was a Gaza freedom march the past couple days… Against violence?  Against teaching their children to hate Israel and strive to become martyrs?  Doubt it.  But hey, they’re free to leave anytime… Oops.  No they can’t… Silly Egypt has built a giant metal wall.

Tuesday Newsday

Tuesday Newsday, an Urbandaddy exclusive!

1)  I get it that a football player dying at a very young age is a tragedy but I also understand that when you are chasing / attacking your fiance by jumping on a moving vehicle and having been in trouble with the law before (and turfed off your team numerous times) you may suffer injuries or even die, like Chris Henry of the Cincinnati Bengal’s did.  At his funeral she said while she may have helped steer him out of trouble, he changed her life. Henry, 26, was killed after he fell out of a pickup bed being driven by his fiance Loleini Tonga during what police described as a domestic dispute.

Police are investigating, but no charges have been filed.

But the comments from his fiance at the funeral re-iterate my comments about what happens when we pay athletes millions and millions of dollars and shove this in the faces of the youth of today.  They think that they don’t need to get a good education and learn about things like… English.

I am not English major by any stretch of the imagination but I know this is just fucked up.

“Can’t nobody feel what I’m feeling right now. … We loved each other very much. People say I helped change his life. No. He changed mine.  We were supposed to get married in three months, but I’m going to wait until I see him again.”

“Can’t nobody feel”???

Oy.

2)  This is why the world will be a better place once the Taliban are no longer in power…

Taliban blow up Pakistan girls school.  The Taliban blew up a girls’ school in Pakistan’s Khyber district, where troops are fighting against militants in the tribal region bordering Afghanistan, an official said Wednesday.

 3)  I don’t want to call this next story for what it is, but for some reason it slipped under the radar.  If you remove the country “Egypt” and change it to “Israel” you would have seen yet another UN resolution asking for sanctions against Israel, and CUPE here in Canada would have gone ape-shit asking for banning of Israeli professors, or worse, banning the letter “I”.

To think that Egypt is let off the hook for creating a giant steel wall between themselves and the Palestinians in order to keep Palestinians out and shut down the some 150 tunnels, under the guise of national security is ok, but Israel doing the same is apartheid and terrorism.

Makes you wonder if mainstream media is anti-Israel or anti-Semitic?!?

Egypt confirmed on Tuesday it is engaged in construction along its border with Gaza but said it is not building what some reports have said is a steel wall to block cross-border smuggling.  (But it is)

Hamas and other militant groups have called on Egypt to stop building such a wall along the Gaza border and Egyptian security officials have confirmed a steel barrier is being built.

Tunnel builders say around 150 tunnels along the border between Egypt and Gaza provide a vital supply link for the enclave whose imports are blocked by Israel.  The “wall” will go below ground and shut off these tunnels.

“The procedures that Egypt is undertaking inside its lands, whether building or construction work along the border with the Gaza Strip, is an Egyptian concern that is related to Egypt and Egyptian national security.”

4)  In a sad story relating to how unsafe and dangerous the drug trade is in Mexico, a drug cartel shot dead the family of a policeman in retaliation for the killing of their leader and arresting of others.  If drugs were not such a money making venture none of this would happen.  Killing will continue until something gives.

Considering the government will never be able to out fire-power the cartels and there are way too many corrupt officials, Mexico will need to either make it legal and tax the crap out of the cartels or crack down on their exports of drugs and import of weapons.  If drugs are no longer leaving the country, users will look elsewhere…

MEXICO CITY — It had been an elaborate farewell to one of Mexico’s fallen heroes.  The mother of a slain Mexican sailor and his aunt attended his funeral on Monday. Hours later, gunmen killed the women.

Ensign Melquisedet Angulo Córdova, a special forces sailor killed last week during the government’s most successful raid on a top drug lord in years, received a stirring public tribute in which the secretary of the navy presented his mother with the flag that covered her son’s coffin.

Then, only hours after the grieving family had finished burying him in his hometown the next day, gunmen burst into the family’s house and sprayed the rooms with gunfire, killing his mother and three other relatives, officials said Tuesday.

It was a chilling epilogue to the navy lead operation that killed the drug lord, Arturo Beltrán Leyva, and six of his gunmen. And it appeared to be intended as a clear warning to the military forces on the front line of Mexican President Felipe Calderon’s war against Mexico’s drug cartels: not only you, but your family is a target as well.

Prosecutors, police chiefs and thousands of others have been killed in the violence gripping Mexico, with whole families sometimes coming under attack during a cartel’s assassination attempt. But going after the family of a sailor who had already been killed is an exceedingly rare form of intimidation, analysts say, and illustrates how little progress the government has made toward one of its most important goals: reclaiming a sense of peace and order for Mexicans caught in the cross-fire.

The military and police forces who have been fighting the drug war typically cover their faces with ski masks to protect their identities. But the government generally releases the names of police officers and soldiers who have been killed in the drug war.

Responding to the killings on Tuesday, Mr. Calderón said, “These contemptible events are proof of how unscrupulously organized crime operates, attacking innocent lives, and they can only strengthen us in our determination to banish this singular cancer.”

Tuesday Newsday

Good news (or not), but the Tuesday Newsday feature is back! In this feature I post parts of the most interesting news items of the day and add my comments to the end of it. Feel free to add your comments too… The more the merrier.

In the news this Tuesday July 24th via Google News.

1) The corpse of a mummified baby has been discovered inside a Riverdale home (Toronto, Ontario). A renovator working in the home made the discovery late Tuesday night. Police said the body of the baby, estimated at about four months of age, was found inside a ceiling of second-floor bedroom wrapped in a newspaper dated from September of 1925. The mummified remains will be examined by the Centre for Forensic Sciences. Police homicide investigators are probing the incident.
Oh oh… Some 100 year old dude and his wife are gonna get their asses whooped for this one once the police identify the remains and track down the seniors in their nursing homes…

2) The Canadian dollar reached a 30-year high yesterday, closing at 96.36 cents (US) – up more than a cent from Monday – after Statistics Canada reported a massive 2.8-per-cent increase in retail sales in May from a month earlier. It is kind of neat to see the dollar climbing, even if it did kill our Scrapbooking business as the majority of our customers were American and took advantage of the then awesome exchange rate. $1.00 US got them $1.30 worth of products, Canadian.

3) The two Arab countries – Egypt and Jordan- with ties to Israel have paid an historic visit to the Jewish state to “extend the hand of peace” on behalf of their fellow Arabs.
Considering Israeli-Palestinian negotiations have not seen progress for seven years, a period in which more than 5,000 people have died in violence, the large majority of them Palestinians, and dialogue is good dialogue unless it starts with, “Find a new place to live”.

4) Troubled starlet Lindsay Lohan could be on her way to jail. The 21-year-old is facing a year in jail after her latest arrest on suspicion of drink-driving and possession of cocaine. She was picked up by police, following a car chase in California, allegedly under the influence and with a small amount of cocaine in her pocket, she was arrested after chasing the mother of her personal assistant in her car early Tuesday morning, Santa Monica police said.

All this happened just five days after she was booked in connection with a May drunken driving charge. Hmmmm. Alcohol, drugs, driving under the influence… What is going to happen first: Jail or Overdose or Britney Spears OD’s first? Role models??? NO WAY. The public is fascinated at watching these two half-wits self destruct in public. I’m sure Paris Hilton is happy the spotlight is off of her. I hope and pray that the earth will open up and swallow these two soon…

I will go on record and say that withing 2-3 years, One of these 3 will go to jail, one will have a mental breakdown and the other will flirt with drug and alcohol addiction and have her reputation ruined. All three will act, sing, or be photographed naked, or have upskirt pictures taken of them… They are trampy and unstable. Fame will eat them alive.

And for you parents stop buying their albums and watching their movies… please!
